7 Favorite SEO Tools for Research and Analysis

There are many SEO Tools for research and analysis on the market today to review and assist in your existing marketing efforts. These tools when used properly can provide so much feedback on what is working, what needs to be improved, and how best to go about making those changes.

I wanted to go over some of our favorite SEO tools that are used for research and analysis.

SEMrush

SEMrush provides some amazing tools such as on-page SEO, keyword research, market research, content development and so much more. They provide additional tools depending on the needs of your company.

The base price isn’t bad for most people starting up and as things evolve, you can easily upgrade the program to higher options as you progress.

If you aren’t ready to jump in fully, they have tons of useful information on their blog as well as webinars you can join as you learn.

We personally love companies that provide tons of useful information for free (like we are trying to do) and give you value before you even purchase something.

ahrefs

There are so many options with ahrefs you will never run out of data. They provide a ton of tools, many of them are even free. You can start a trial for $7 for 7 days, not something many others will offer. This doesn’t get you access to parts of the setup, but the complete setup that they offer.

Ahrefs provides tools for site audits, rank tracker with actual keyword tracking, site explorers including keyword and content analysis, and so much more.

The free tools include SEO toolbars, SERP checkers, keyword tools for Amazon, YouTube, Bing (because there are people who still use Bing) and so much more. Checking out their free tools, the information they provide on their blog, and learning centers are great places to start.

Again, this is a company that believes in giving more than receiving, definitely something we here at Small Hits adores.

MOZ

We have been a huge fan of what Rand Fishkin does for many years now and Moz has always been a great resource for information on changes in the SEO world.

Moz provides site audits, rank tracking, backlink, keyword research, and analysis like many of the other tools. There are also a ton of free solutions available for you to start learning what your site needs.

My favorite part of Moz is honestly the Whiteboard Fridays which are now almost daily, especially since Covid started. So much information is shared there and it is broken down so that anyone can understand the information.

Moz score is also something that has been used for many years in tracking a website and how well its overall performance is compared to others online.

Finally, Moz provides plenty of free resources and information on their blog and training courses as well. You can even get certified for various marketing skills for a fee and the complete course is offered along with the certification test.

HubSpot

I don’t know if I would call HubSpot an SEO tool more of a complete SEO resource. HubSpot offers everything from data and analysis, to website hosting, email, workflows, and so much more.

I have been a raving fan of them for so many years and have even been a user of their platform for over 10 years.

HubSpot provides free tools to start with and allows its customers to grow with them. This allows you to start with their more basic tools and add on to their paid tools as your business grows. It also allows you access to their certification courses and all their resources online.

Unlike many others online, their main theme has been inbound marketing. This is the same setup Small Hits is promoting with their clients. Inbound is evergreen and everything you develop will provide you with long-lasting results.

SpyFu

SpyFu is definitely an affordable solution for your SEO and PPC research and analysis. They also include competitor research, something that isn’t always offered in an effective way.

Like the rest, there are tons of resources available to learn about the systems they use. They also have tons of step-by-step guides on how to get started and increase your visibility, both with your website and your paid marketing campaigns.

One great feature of SpyFu is their Google Ad templates to help you get started on any PPC campaign you need. They can walk you through how to get your Google Ads account up and running, how to optimize for your products and services, and get ready-built ads that only need minor tweaks.

Ubersuggest

I have been a raving fan of Neil Patel for so long now. He developed CrazyEgg, a great resource to see what users see and how they interact with your website via heatmaps and click tracking. When he developed Ubersuggest, I had to see what this tool was all about.

I have used Ubersuggest and this tool provides so much value. Not only does it allow you to see all the statistics behind your website, but also allows you to research what your competition is doing and others in your space. There is so much data available you will never run out of ideas on how to develop your website further.

Ubersuggest also has a Chrome plugin that allows you to see even more data as you search. You can click on SERP information without even leaving Google. You can see things like the website Domain Authority, site visits, social shares, and even their backlinks.

SEO Minion

SEO Minion is a great tool that is completely free and is just a Chrome and Firefox plugin. This too can provide tons of data for your site or others. Just click on the extension when you are on the site and see all the data clearly.

This isn’t just great for people trying to determine what is going on with their site, but companies who are doing quick research on other websites.

Conclusion of our favorite SEO Tools for Research and Analysis

That about does it for our seven favorite SEO tools for research and analysis. There are tons of resources online, each with its own benefits. Take advantage of some free or low-cost trials, visit each resource and blog section to see how they do their marketing, and check them all out on social networks to get the best overview.
